What’s cookin’? Plenty! British manufacturer of (very high) quality cine glass, Cooke Optics, just announced five new lenses to its FF+ (Full Frame Plus) range of primes. Four of them sit in the S7/i category, the Anamorphic/i lineup snaps the fifth new prime lens.
Cooke has quite the reputation in the high-end cine production, the Cooke Look is something many cinematographers are after and –like me– Cooke claims that crazy-high resolution is not everything, looks matters! Now, since NAB 2020 is not gonna happen, at least not the way we know and love, Cooke decided to announce their 2020 lineup via zoom webinar. The company announces five new lenses and the press release comes along with a statement of Cooke Optics Chariman Les Zellan:
We’re disappointed that we are unable to see many of our international friends at NAB this year, but this webinar will give people the opportunity to hear more about the new lenses, find out what else we are working on including Cooke Optics TV and #ShotOnCooke, and ask the questions that they would have been able to discuss on the stand.
Hopefully the filmmaking community will be able to lay hands on these new lenses in real-life productions rather sooner than later!
Cooke S7/i Spherical Primes
With the addition of the new 300mm T3.3 prime, the whole S7/i FF+ lineup now sports an impressive total of 14 lenses:
- 16mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 18mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 21mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 25mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 27mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 32mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 40mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 50mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 65mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 75mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 100mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 135mm S7/i FF+ T2
- 180mm S7/i FF+ T2
- New: 300mm S7/i FF+ T3.3
Furthermore, Cooke announced three new 1:1 MAKRO lenses for a new branch of the S7/i lineup as well: 60mm, 90mm, and 150mm. If you happen to have all these lenses available for a given shoot, I don’t think there is any excuse not to get that perfect shot anymore!
Cooke Anamorphic/i Primes
Happy days for anamorphic shooters! Along with the release of the four new lenses above, Cooke also announced a fresh Anamorphic/i lens: the 180mm T2.3.
That lens expands the whole Anamorphic/i lineup to a total of eight lenses:
- 32mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- 40mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- 50mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- 75mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- 80mm MAKRO Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.8
- 100mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- 135mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
- NEW: 180mm Anamorphic/i FF+ 1.8x T2.3
Of course, Cooke glass is not exactly cheap, it’s much more of a rental item but if you’re serious about cinematography, you should try and get your hands dirty with a set of these! The Cooke Look still is a thing many A-list DoPs around the world are after. But never forget: even with inferior gear great results can be achieved!
